President's Message

By Deana Dossey, PharmD

September, 2006

We have a great fall lineup of programs for AASHP members and invited guests.

  • Just in time, since inhaled insulin is now in pharmacies, our September 12 program is "Update on New Treatments for Diabetes Mellitus" with Dr. Simone Scumpia.
  • There are two programs in October. October 10 is "Treating Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections in the Era of Increasing Resistance" with Dr. Winn.
  • On Thursday of the same week, October 12, we are having a special "Legislative Update" program with Brad Shields, the lobbyist for TSHP. We've invited seven local representatives to take part, and as of September 5, two have already RSVP'd to attend!
  • Our November program with CAPA will be "Pedigree Legislation and the Effect on the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain" with Patrick Carpenter, MS, RPh. Our sponsor has told me that anyone that wants to attend the November program will be able to, so I expect a fantastic turnout for our November program with CAPA.

Seating for many programs is limited, so you'll want to RSVP as soon as possible after we send out the announcement for each program. We often have a waiting list, so if you find out you cannot attend and you have a confirmed reservation, please contact us as soon as possible so your seat can go to someone who wants it. An accurate headcount is essential for event planning and to help everything run smoothly.

Virtual applause goes out to the AASHP members that volunteered in August at the Volunteer Clinic. I always learn something new there. This time, I'm hoping mareo, a Spanish word for "dizziness" will stick with me. The pharmacy technicians at the clinic really do make our volunteer work easy. Since I work at a hospital, I find getting my "retail legs" back for a couple of hours is refreshing and fun.

If you've got a job opening or other pharmacy-related item for the AASHP website, please let us know. We'd like to keep the AASHP site an interesting place for our members to visit.

I wish you a productive, healthy, and happy September (and life).
