TSHP Call for Volunteers 2011-2012Volunteers

TSHP is seeking volunteers to serve on Councils & Committees.

TSHP
President-Elect Randy Ball is beginning consideration of appointments to 2011-2012 TSHP Councils and Section Executive Committees. Randy is particularly interested in appointing one individual from each local TSHP Chapter to serve on each Council. There may be additional appointees, but at least one member from each local is our initial target. We also like to appoint one or more students and a technician (at least) to each council.

The Councils and Section Executive Committees meet by toll-free conference call, usually 3 or 4 times during the organizational year. It may be more (in the case of Public Affairs or Educational Affairs, which oversees the Annual Seminar), or less, depending on the business before the group. Calls usually last 1 hour and are scheduled during the workday; often around the noon hour, but subject to the Chair and council members’ wishes.

In order to be considered for appointment to a Council or Section executive committee, please complete an online sign-up form and include your 1st and 2nd choices. We make every effort to assign all volunteers, but there are limited positions available.

To indicate your interest, go to the TSHP Website (www.tshp.org), and click on “Volunteer to Serve on Council or Committee” under “About Us) (login not required), or click here.

Councils and their areas of responsibility include:

COUNCIL ON ORGANIZATIONAL AFFAIRS - responsible for review and maintenance of the Society's governing documents, gathering and organizing documents for Society archives, oversee the balloting for all elections, identification and recognition of outstanding members throughout the State and any other related activities identified by the Board of Directors. The Canvassing Group shall consist of at least three members appointed by the President and shall be responsible for tabulating any ballots returned for any election conducted by TSHP (generally minimal duty, as most elections are now conducted electronically).

COUNCIL ON PROFESSIONAL AFFAIRS - responsible for professional and scientific matters including the development and improvement of the professional practice of pharmacy in organized healthcare settings; the development of standards and related materials; and any other related activities identified by the Board of Directors.

COUNCIL ON PUBLIC AFFAIRS - responsible for review and interpretation of proposed and potential legislation and actual changes in laws, rules, and regulations affecting public health and pharmacy practice; developing proposed positions on legislation and regulations for the Society; cooperating with and coordinating activities with allied organizations and agencies; and any other related activities identified by the Board of Directors.

COUNCIL ON MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT - responsible for membership recruitment and retention, development of new sources of revenue to be reviewed/approved by the Executive Committee, and development of services to benefit members and enhance the value of the TSHP membership investment.

COUNCIL ON COMMUNICATION AFFAIRS - responsible for the dissemination of information to the membership and to the general public through regular Society publications and other media; membership recruitment, development of member services and communications with affiliated chapters and to members living in areas of the State without an organized chapter, development of new methods of financing to be reviewed/approved by the Executive Committee; and any other related activities identified by the Board of Directors.

TSHP EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD. The TSHP Editorial Advisory Board is chaired by the Editor of the Journal. The Editor and Board are appointed by the President-Elect for one-year terms. The Board is responsible to the Council on Communications Affairs for the role of the Journal in the overall communications plan of the Society. The Board assists in identifying and obtaining articles for publication; writing articles or short news stories, as requested; assist in developing the goals, content plan and direction for the journal; assist in identifying and contacting potential advertising support for the journal and peer review and content editing.

COUNCIL ON EDUCATION AFFAIRS - responsible for coordinating all continuing education functions sponsored or conducted by the Society. This shall include guidance and assistance in programming and funding the Society's educational and training activities, including the Annual Seminar, other forms of continuing education, or other related activities that may be identified by the Board of Directors.

TSHP INDUSTRY SECTION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. The President-Elect appoints the Chair, Vice Chair, a Secretary and one member-at-large. The Section plans, recommends and coordinates programs for its members, including programming at the Annual Seminar. It provides guidance and makes proposals to the Board of Directors on policy issues involving their areas of interest and develops guidelines and practice standards for their interest area.

Appointments will be made closer to the Annual Seminar, but it would be good to begin identifying potential nominees at your next meeting.

Thanks for considering this request and opportunity to strengthen the TSHP Policy Council process
