Wednesday, May 11, 2016 Dinner Meeting & Law Update
We are pleased to announce the next meeting of the Austin Area Society of Health System Pharmacists on May 11, 2016 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the County Line on the Lake 5204 Ranch Road 2222 Austin, Texas 78731.
Click here for information about the meeting.
Important updates: this meeting is very full but we were able to accomodate members who RSVPd and were placed on the stand-by list. Please note that if you were on the stand-by list you should have already received an email inviting you to the meeting, as we were able to add more seats. If you received the email, please reply and let us know if you will be attending.
If you have a confirmed reservation and cannot attend, please notify us before 4 pm Monday, May 9 by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org so we can remove you from the list. We have to guarantee a final number of attendees at that time and any no-shows will still have to be paid for out of our AASHP funds.
IMPORTANT: to reduce costs, we will not be distributing printed slides at the meeting. Please download and print the slides here or follow along on your electronic device: AASHP-2016-05-11-Pharmacy-Law-Slides.pptx.
Next, please note that Gay Dodson will not be speaking. Gay notified us last weekend that a conflict has come up and she will be in Tyler, Texas for the Pharmacy Congress meeting. She has asked Jim Clark, one of the compliance officers to fill in for her.
The meeting will still be ACPE accredited law CE that is required for renewal of your license.
We are pleased to announce the results of the election of officers. Amy Jones will be our secretary/treasurer and Kathryn Merkel will be our president-elect. Julie Nelson, President and Kathryn Merkel, President Elect were installed into their respective offices on Sunday April 24 at the TSHP Annual Seminar Installation Luncheon along with many of the other local chapter officers.
AASHP will not have a meeting in June, but we will be having a summer social at the Cap City Comedy Club in July. President Julie Nelson won a party for 20 people through the TSHP Research and Education Foundation raffle at the TSHP Annual Seminar. An announcement and sign up will come out in July.
We are also pleased to announce that the AASHP scholarship was awarded by the TSHP Research and Education Foundation Scholarship Committee to Mohammad Adil of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. Mohammad has served this past year as the student liaison to AASHP from the UT Student Society of Health System Pharmacists. Congratulations Mohammad Adil!!
Finally, we will need to conduct a fund raising drive to get the AASHP scholarship with the TSHP Research and Education Foundation up to a $30,000 endowment. The market investments are not giving a high enough rate of return to provide a $1000 scholarship at the current endowment level. Therefore, the TSHP Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors has set the endowment level at $30,000. We are currently at $22,000 plus. More about this later.

The Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists Constitution has been amended with changes to the by-laws. The changes were approved by the membership at the October, 2007 meeting and the amended Constitution has been posted on our website (click to download).
Thanks to the officers of AASHP and especially Deanna Dossey, AASHP Past President, for spearheading the process of amending the AASHP Constitution so that we may better serve the members of our organization.
